Tree PeoniesTree Peony CultivationTree Peonies are very hardy and are perfectly happy in sun or shade. It is probably best to avoid a windy or exposed site as this would shorten the life of the flower. As Tree Peonies start to grow early in the year, young buds can be damaged by frost if exposed to early morning sun so avoid planting in an east facing aspect. Tree peonies prefer a well drained soil that is reasonably fertile and with a neutral to slightly alkaline PH. Plants are supplied either as container grown or bare root. Bare Root Container Grown Do not allow plants to dry out, especially in the first summer. Tree peonies like plenty of feeding. Use Fish, Blood and Bone Fertilizer as an early Autumn Top Dressing. Avoid high nitrogen liquid feeds. Any pruning that is required should be done in February as the buds are beginning to swell. Trim off any dead wood back to a bud. Pruning should not be too harsh. Once the Tree peony has formed a good shape, the pruning can be kept to a minimum. |
